It might sound dumb but being able to leave the ESC 2020 Forum behind me, and me finishing my top 100 allround Eurovision including the 2020 songs today, feels like the perfect way to leave what this Eurovision season was

RTVA is quite an amateuristic TV channel, even SMTV looks like BBC compared to them.

I don't know many of the details, but basically RTVA started to participate because TVC, the Catalan public broadcaster, signed an agreement with the Andorran government for promoting Catalan language in Europe and this agreement included, among other cultural activities, collaboration (meaning money) with the Andorran participation in ESC for some years.

After the bad results (and criticism over English used in 2007), the agreement ceased, but I don't know exactly when. I think the participations of Gisela in 2008 and Suzanne in 2009 were at least partly paid by their teams, but as results kept on getting even worse, the project was cancelled and no real interest has arosed since then.

Things being said here are not true at all (for a change ).

1. RTVA started as a good TV channel, given the size of the country and the influence from Spain, France and Portugal. It was the 2008 crisis (Andorra depends a whole lot on banking) that put the corporation on the brink of bankruptcy and big cuts were made.

2. RTVA always participated in ESC on their own. It's true RTVA and the Catalonian TV collaborated for the 2004 NF, which they expected to be some kind of Catalan-speaking Operación Triunfo, but that's about it. That agreement about promoting the Catalan language is bullshit. In fact, the 2004 NF as it finally was, was not prepared until the last moment (initially, a video contest was planned to be hosted by RTVA alone). RTVA planned their ESC debut for years.

3. Andorran participants paid for some expenses themselves (trip, hotel, etc.) but that's about it. Suzanne was not even selected internally but by a small NF.
